International Shipping

Okay, so I found a bumper for my car at a decent price but it's 1200 miles away and in Canada, ( I'm in North Dakota) what are some ways I could get it shipped to me?

All the 'savings' will vanish when you discover the shipper is charging you a hundred dollars to cover the border crossing paperwork.
YES there is paperwork involved, and most shipping companies really screw the customer for taking care of it.
Unless you have do this before, I highly recommend skipping it Unless the company you are buying from guarantees the full coverage of any costs.
And yes the item may ship for $75. But the bill when it arrived may add another $100 before you are allowed to pick it up.

Small items which can be sent Canada Post usually have an easy time. Big stuff shipped freight not so good.

The thing is, I can get the bumper for 150 there and even if it costs an extra 500 in shipping that's still cheaper than any I've found in the US

One of the issues is the sheer size of the item.

Seller/shipper would need to crate it for shipment and you can't get a final estimate without dimensions/weight available.

I'd do a rough estimate of that from the size of something large enough to encompass a bumper, then call a carrier who handles LTL shipments across the border for details & a rough estimate of costs.

FedEx does such LTL here, and prob. to/from Canada, DHL advertises such services, pick a favorite or two and see what response you get. There are many companies in the LTL freight business.

AFTER checking with the shipper of course on the possibility/cost of crating/shipping.

Is it the SAP bumper by chance? I would scour a little harder and look more local. Or by chance find one that is within the US borders. Then it will only cost about $75 to ship it to most cities in the continental US on a Grayhound bus.

Work with the seller-if they are close enough to the US border ask if they would ship to you from the US side (via Greyhound as previously mentioned).

Where in Canada is the bumper located? 1,200 miles is a loooooong way away from you in ND. Canada Post offers "Parcel Post" designed for shipping parcels and packages of all shapes and sizes. The cost isn't usually too prohibitive, just something for you and the seller to investigate. Maybe he/she could call Canada Post and ask them what is would cost to ship a properly wrapped package of this size xxxxxxxx weighing xxxxxxx lbs. Might be worth the effort.

Cheers!

Mike
