do you think 50 000 is bad mileage to start modifying your car

no, as long as the car is solid. no bad oil leaks, properly maintained. These motors are overbuilt.

I wouldn't go that far. The Focus is a cheaply manufactured, mass-built economy car designed for huge market consumption. They are decent motors, but they are by no means tough.

Anything over 250hp and Tom will start replacing internals to handle it.


As far as bolt-ons... knock yourself out. Mine has 65k on it now and it runs fine, but I fix it every time I break it.

So far:
2 transmissions.
new cooling fan
new oil pan
new cat
new mounts
new radiator hose
new resistor pack
new starter motor
new clucth switch
new ignition

on an 02+ zetec you'r fine to mod on that. The motors have VERY strong internals unlike the duratec.
