i say 00-04, but I am partial.....

I say a STRONG following of 00-04, and a growing 05-06 following, as well as some that have converted 05's to look like 00-04's...

I like the 00-04 hatches better, but I like the 05 and up sedans better.

I don't think the new front goes so well with the hatch body lines.

To me, the 05 update is something of a cost cutting effort. I've driven a few (rentals while mine has been in the shop), and sadly most of the things I love about mine were removed. The drawer in the dashboard is gone, replaced by a cd player holder in the driver's side footwell (brilliant - considering that I've been using an iPod for three years and have little need for CD's). The little cubby hole (not present on svt's - gauges are there) to the right of the gauges is a handy little place for little things like bic lighters, etc. Welcome features of the 05 model - cup holder in the door, though it's useless for anything other than a 20oz bottle of coke - which is fine because that's all I'd use it for. The cigaretter lighter/powerport is in a bad spot. It's right next to the radio controls. Though, this is only an issue if you use it for accessories. The monster cable iCar play that I use unfortunately has a big round plastic piece on the back of the connector for the cigaretter lighter. On my 02, it's not an issue, on the 05, it's right next to the radio control, and it's the same size as the volume control.

The new grille is nice, the chrome is something that's been loacking for quite some time. As has been mentioned before, it looks good on the sedan, but not so great on the hatchbacks or wagon. Frankly, they look goofy now.

To anyone at Ford, if you're listening, which you probably aren't. The 05 focus update for north america was a waste of time, money, and effort. Everyone knows it's the same car you've been selling since 2000. Heaven forbid you actually bring the second generation of a european product to north america in a timely fashion. Then again, you're the same folks who thought that putting brakes with less capacity than the original design into the north american version would be a good idea. Eh, I give up.

i say pre 05, unless its a euro mk2 even though i dont care for the rear end on the new euro mk2 it sure beats the front end on the new 05's here in the us.

I have to go with Gen 1, but that might be because I like the C1 platform, European, Focus and our Gen 2 is nothing close to it.

I think that the fronts of the 2nd gens are soo much nicer than the old ones! Much cleaner and has an overall nicer look, the way the grill is and where they put the fogs.
