OH, forgot that. 108k on mine, and adding 800 miles per week back and forth to work.

Computerized inventory in junkyards? That takes all the fun out of carrying a tool box through oil soaked mud amidst a pile of wrecks looking for jewels. Dang computers ruin everything.

Wagon help needed!!

The guy I am buying the 07 wagon from was about to hand over the keys when I checked the back seats and noticed, to my horror, that the rear seat backs only fold flat when the cushion is folded up ( as in lots of cars) but although the seat backs are split 40 - 60, the becnh is all one piece and so in order to have just one side flat - like to put an outboard motor in, for example you have to put the bench up right across, so you can't seat even one person in the back seat.

Is this normal? What kind of design idea is this? Surely they must have fixed it before the 2007 model year?
How do you wagon owners manage to use it with with one passenger in the back and the other side sitting at about a 35 degree angle?

Anyone just cut the seat?
Dealer parts department show the availability of split seat cushions for like $650.00. I wonder if this was an option, or did they make a mistake with the wagon I want to buy?

I put the deal on hold for 48 hours.

I have an 03 Norval and that's the way mine is. You can still fold down the back without lifting the front, it goes down about half way. I've done this lots of times for hauling bikes and stuff. By the way I'm at 147k and running strong.

Thanks. I've decided to go ahead and buy it anyway as I like the reliability and relatively low maintenance cost. I have priced the separate seats new at $478.00 canadian, but think I will wait until some show up at a auto parts recycler. Does anyone know if:
a) split seats from a sedan or hatchback can be used to replace the bench seat of my wagon? and,
b) would seats from an 05 or 06 fit or were there differences in 07?

It is a dumb design decision though, isn't it? Never seen it before in any of the many hatchbacks, wagons, vans and suvs that I have owned since 1982.

(I can't believe this is my 6th post and I don't even own the wagon yet.)

Mine is like that as well.. I ALWAYS thought the back seat was a poor design for the same reason as you...but it has been fine most times, as we just lean it down as stated above

Used to have an '02 Wagon. I say "used to", because a year ago, it was totaled in a one-car accident. But, I have to say, I got 290,000 miles out of her before she died.

Yep, when 85 Honda Civic Wagons have split lower seats so that you can fold half of it down instead of the whole thing- it's ridiculous that Ford engineers didn't think of it. It's not like it would cost that much more, and should've been at least an option. Hopefully the next wagon design will have features like this.

I've got the same rear seat - split seatbacks, but a single bottom cushion. If I need to haul more cargo + 3 or more people, I just take my oher vehicle.

I also happen to have crossbars on my roof rack. Didn't buy it new, so I don't know what that option cost.

Also, there were some 03's and '04's with the Duratec engine - 2.3 PZEV version.

'03 wagon with about 89000miles and runs perfect. it is my wife's car but she has given me permission to mod it so I have started but not yet finishes..it is fun as hell and I have even used it as a light truck a few times, great lil car. I am going to end up keeping it for my self after I buy the wife another car...she is complaining that the wagon is too loud now with the mods, lol.
