Howdy, I'm Back With More Questions

Hi guys, its been a while since I've made a post, I've just been getting some stuff done, but I had a question for you guys, coming from a kid who is new to the car/tuning scene, what do you guys, as a whole, think of tow hooks? I was recently at Auto Zone and this guy rolled up in a riced-out JDM Civic and it really got me thinking, are those tow hooks really useful on a daily driver? I live in Kentucky and we can get quite a lot of snow here and there, but would it really be used for anything other than looks and the occasional pull out of the snow? I appreciate all feedback on how you guys feel about them...

just showey rice. To attach them to anything strong enough to be useful id imagine you would have to cut the bumper

I'll admit, sometimes they can look really neat, sometimes, but seeing as the Focus isn't exactly made to be driven in the snow, I'm kind of torn, it would be very, very handy, but then again ~rice~

I was never "hip" to the JDM scene, took me awhile to figure out what those were supposed to be. It just says "I really plan on getting stuck" to me. Keep a real tow strap in the trunk if the occasion arises.

The Focus is great in the snow, a lot of people here will agree... it's FWD. With snow tires its even better from what I've heard, I've never needed dedicated snow tires where I'm at.

Tow hooks are exactly what they are. Instead of having someone trying to hook something under the car and pulling you, they attach it to the tow hook and haul you out of a situation. A lot of it comes from road racing, where if you have an accident which renders your car immobile, they can just attach to the tow hook and literally "tow" you out of the area. I also use the rear hook as a trailer chain attachment lol.

I have a tow hook on the front and rear of my vehicle. A lot of Japanese cars already have tiny loops under their bumpers from when the car is shipped to the US on a ship. The loops are used to secure the cars down. Sometimes dealerships remove them, but in most cases, they are left on. The tow loops on the front of my Miata are removable, but were left in place. The rear is welded in place and it's under the bumper. The structure that the loops is attached to, is strong enough to hold my trailer hitch as well as my rear tow hook. Here are a few pictures of them.

I would love to have tow hooks on my Foci, if they were mounted to be effective. If they're mounted just for show, they are useless to me. I live on a county road that is not snow plowed and have wished I had them on several occasions where I had to find a suitable tow point under the car and hope that I didn't pull off a bumper cover with the tow strap in the process of recovery.

I like the tow strap look better than hook, just seems more subtle. I'd say it should be useful for the track rats who spend a lot of time at the track; should at least have on one end of the car. Bound to end up in nature at some point

Long, flat tow hooks are also likely to get bent the first time used when the pull isn't perfectly centered on them.

What companies would you guys recommend? Just so I don't get potentially screwed on a pot-metal one if I decide to buy one...
