ticking noise when sitting still

hi all, im new to the focus world and i had a couple of questions. when im sitting still at a stop light and i have the tranny in nuetral and my foot off the clutch i here a ticking noise from the passenger side up front, when i push in the clutch then it goes away, is this normal, or is there something loose that i can fix without major work? the other question involves the speakers up front, what size are they? thanks for all the help.

Hello and Welcome to the site. Is your Focus new or used? I've been reading about a lot of unusual noises that have arose with the onset of Old Man Winter. I dont know if this is your case, since you live in Cal. The sound may come from your flywheel instead of your clutch. There really is no telling. For peace of mind you could always have your service dept look at it. This is really the best thing to do if you have a warranty.

Again Welcome to FF and I hope you enjoy the Forums.

The ticking noise may be your fuel injectors, which is normal. It could be your transaxle, too - maybe the throwout bearing since you say it goes away when you push in the clutch pedal. That would be more of a rattling sound, though.

The speakers are 5x7/6x8 for both the front and the rear in all Focus models.

Just had my car in at the dealer for a ticking noise in the front end. First they told me that it was the clutch and it was normal, then they told me that it was the tranny and there was nothing that I could do about it.. you might be having the same problem..

Sounds like svt4me got it right. I would guess the throwout bearing since it goes away when you depress the clutch, these often have a little noise that may be normal, without hearing it it is hard to say. Take it by a ford garage and let a tech hear it, they will probably know what it is right away, at least if it is normal..remember they work on alot of foci

Yes, this is normal. Mine has done that since I have driven it off the lot. I wouldn't even bother carrying it to the dealer cause they will tell you the same thing they told 03chrome, not unless you feel it will give you peace of mind if you do. All it is that the flywheel is turning when you have your foot off of the clutch and that's the noise you hear. Why it makes the ticking sound, we probably will never know, but it is very normal.

I asked the service manager at my dealer about that a day ago, he said injectors firing.
