Rebuild it or get something else?

Ive got a 02 zx5 automatic with 120k on it and my atx is getting a little shifty on me (eh, shifty?) and is clunking a lot and slipping more and more often. Im at a rock and a hard place trying to decide if I should get a newer used vehicle or just dump that 8-10k into rebuilding my car. Needs 2 cracked windows replaced and could use a new coat of paint. The frame is in great shape.

Is swapping to mtx possible? And if I stayed with ATX how much would a FI ready atx cost?

Moved to "General Car Chat Lounge" so you can get more opinions on this matter. Ultimately, it will boil down to how much you want to spend of course. If you really like the car, then put some money into it. I would for sure switch it over to an MTX-75 the first chance you get. If you are going to go FI, I would highly suggest upgrading the clutch in the process. A built ATX can be quite expensive from what I have seen. If you are wanting to keep within a certain budget, definitely do some shopping around. Check the B-S-T section for people parting out their turbo kits for some cheaper options. The list is endless on what you can do, but it just boils down to what you want exactly.

How much of the work can you do yourself?

I don't think it's worth repairing if you're paying someone else to do the majority of the work..

My ATX w/178K is on it's last leg as well. AAMCO wants 1,700 + to replace it. I only paid 1,800 for the car lol.

I would vote to find another car and try to get what you can for the car with the failing atx.

Just my 2 cents.....

PS...been driving mine with no reverse since last December.

Wound up getting another car. A beautiful 06 solara se sport with only 55k miles! As much as I initially missed my focus that quickly faded away. This thing is just so much more fun to drive.
