ZETEC specs?

okay, so any 2.0L DOHC engine in a Focus is a ZETEC? Anything special about this engine, or is this just the name its refered to? Im looking into purchasing my first Focus, and need to know, since Im going to be modifying it- should I get a DOHC or SOHC?

If you are getting a focus the zetec is the better of the two 2.0 liter engines. One is a DOHC the other a SOHC. You want the 2.0 zetec.

You may be able to get the 2.3 PZEV engine, that is a new engine in the focus and it is much improved over the previous engines. I would suggest looking fo one of those.

I thought the new 2.3L was a low emission built engine, meaning less power....

Also, what exactly is a ZX2?

the PZEV is a good motor over all if anythign i'd get that, the zx2 is the focus's bastard brother, most Ford dealers thing its a focus but its a escort, it has a slightly different version of the ZETEC and different tranny gearing

AHHHH. okay so what should I look for. I would prefer the 4 door sedan or 2 door hatch, but Ive been told that comes with the SVT only, which takes me out of my price range. SO 4 door sedan it is! I plan on building a street machine out of this thing- something relatively fast and daily driveable. :-]. So what trim do I search for?

Well, my toy errrrrrrr... car is going to be USED, not new.

If you want a 4 door, there is the cheaper SE or the fully loaded ZTS, a manual transmission is a good performance choice.

the 2.0 Zetec is better to mod if your new to it cuz its internaly balanced, the PZEV you can really mess up if your new and NO idea what you are dooing, stock vs stock the zx2 is faster then the focus, but the focus has a bigger aftermarket.. and just cuz a car is not longet produced it doesnt mean its obsolite look at the 240SX, integra, contour SVT, Taurus SHO, all no longer made, but new parts are still bing made for them

oh dear God, a manual is a must. Theres nothing like running through the gears to clear your head. Anyway, a 4cyl performance car for me MUST be a 5 speed.

So, what comes in the SE, I do not car about power door locks or windows or heated seats- saves weight. ;-) AC is a must and a stereo is still cool, I just dont mind cranking windows up and down.

So, a ZX2 isnt a Focus? kind of like the pre-production prototype huh?
