shifting question

The focus is still pretty new to me I noticed that it doesn't seem to have the red indicator mark on the tach that states your getting close to redline, I'm assuming that 7 grand is the red line. If this is so what are the best shifting points in the ZX3 for the best times. Normally I take it to about 4500 and shift, so far have been kind of afraid to go past this point. In my last car 91 Ford escort GT, 5000 seemed to be about the best point. Not to mention that stupid little arrow that is suppose to tell you to shift is real pissing me off. It seems like the damn thing is only there to flash when it feels like it. I look down and its on and I'm at 2500 RPM but if I'm at 4500RPM it's off. What does the light just think after 3000, "Ahhh F--ck it he's not looking at me anyway."

The red line is around 6800 RPM (that's when you reach the rev limiter), and the shift light is for the best fuel economy (which means you are using the least amount of power). Seems like my car pulls the hardest from 4K-5K RPM.

That's funny. Is it possible to get a mpg guage like bimmers?

I feel like I make the best power when shifting as follows.

1 - 2 = Just over 6000rpm
2 - 3 = Right at 6000
3 - 4 = Right at 6000
4 - 5 = Right at 6000

Wow 6000 rpm's, I would consider that to be kinda high for avg. shifting. Avg. shifting range for me is anywhere from 2800 to 3500 on just regular daily driving. Now if i'm in the mood to drive hard or racing someone, then i normally get in 4 and 5000 range. I've probably on reached up to 6 a half a dozen times and over 6 only a few times. S2dude is right, the rev limiter is set at 6800. Also the shift light is based on fuel economy as well, not rpm's. It just tells you when the best time to shift is to get the best fuel economy. If you go past when it tells you to shift, then it defeated it's purpose and probably why it goes off. It doesn't bother me, but it does seem like it comes on when it feels like it cause it doesn't always come on when it should. I followed it one time just to play around and it had me shifting into 5th at 35 mph. Talking about major bogging down, lol. LOL @ focus mike on the electrical tape. Yea it would be neat to get a mpg guage like bimmers, I think they are pretty cool.

My norm shift range as is stated.

1st: 6800 rpms or shift light comes on, NAH I go with the shift light. Muwahahahahahaha
2nd: Ummmmmm shift light
3rd: shift light
4th: shift light
by the way my tach is set at 7000 RPMS. Muwahahahahahahahaha

No I'm just kidding
3000 to 4000 is the norm for me in all gears, except when I'm racing.

For normal driving I shift at 3500 to 4000 rpms.
By the way, I usually only get about 26 or 27 mpg. Whereas my girlfriend get 30.

Normal driving I never go above 3000.

Racing, all depends on your mods.

That is where I shift when I'm trying to pull hard. I shift between 3000 and 3500 for normal driving.
