Top Gear will continue, though likely not in the same format.

Will it lose the audience that was enthralled by the antics of Clarkson, May, and Hammond? Quite probably, though the show has been around in various forms since 1977.

1977-2001 as a more serious motoring program like a British MotorWeek

2002-2014 as a much more entertainment oriented program with cars as the sideline.

So it could go several ways, try to become more serious like Fifth Gear, or to try to keep the same format but this will not be easy as the presenters won't have the same relationship right away. That took years to develop.

You make some good points.

I should have said "the end of Top Gear as we know it".

The big question is will the trio make a new show?

Also will the stig get to drift the mk3 FoRS?

I'm going to miss the current format of TopGear. That's what set it apart from every other motoring show on TV. They dropped Clarkson and May said that he wasn't renewing his contract, so Richard is the only one left for now. If he'll stay or go is still to be seen, but if I was in his shoes I'd walk. The three of them could easily get picked up by another network.

My bet is on a new show. When it comes down to it, Clarkson, May, and Hammond are modern Top Gear. Assuming they all stay together, they can make anything work anywhere, and I doubt they would have any trouble finding funding.

It's just sad the it needs to end this way; however, it's surprising that he lasted this long on BBC without getting sacked.

James May actually hasn't said anything, you've fallen into the trap of believing the fake twitter account rather than something directly from James May.

James May's 'I Quit Top Gear' Tweet Is Fake, Everyone

The I quit Top Gear message is from some doppelganger account, and not the real user id of @MRJamesMay, not @Mr_JamesMay which is the fake.

I'm pissed that we lost the last couple episodes from the current season. Hopefully they'll still release the segments they've already produced. Maybe include them in some best of season 22 episode.
