Question hmm.. thats odd. stupid gas light

This morning when i was leaving for work at about 4:30am (god i hate my job...) I had a little 'episode' with my fuel gauge / light. when i started the car, the guage showed full (which it had damn well better since i filled it less then 1km from my house on the way home last night...), but as i started to back out of the driveway the guage quickly dropped right to empty and the gas light came on. I stopped the car, turned it off, let it sit for a second, then turned it back on. again the guage showed full, but dropped to empty about 30 seconds later. I turned the car off once more, let 'er sit for a second, and turned it back on. This time the guage stayed on empty with the fuel light on. I drove to work with the fuel light on and the guage showing empty ('bout a 15 minute drive) and tried turning off/ on the car again. again the guage showed empty. Then when i left work at noon, everything was fine.

Now, it was pretty damn cold this morning (-25C, -43 with windchill...). Is it possible that this was just somthing caused by the cold, or does this sound like the beggining of the end for my fuel guage. I remember reading a few threads on here where people had their fuel sender (i believe thats what they called it...) go, and i was just wondering if this sounded like the begging of the same problem or if it was somthing that could be just brought on by the cold....

did you remove the key between the time you filled up and had the problem? the owners manual says you will have a guage accuracy problem if you don't. Hopefully that is all it was.

-25C.........-43 with windchill. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, no way I would be out. That is just tooooo cold.

I hope things are fine now, concerning your fuel gauge. If it acts up again, I would just save myself the problem shooting and take it in for service.

dave30, me too it was really cold this morning like you, and my gauge say the same thing, I think its just because of the cold temperature because my car was full.
