Good Winter Mileage

Despite the nasty weather, this has been a good year for Winter MPG.

I'll blame the stock size 15" General Altimax Arctics I put on this year, and Winter blend possibly having less alky - still pleasantly surprised as it's often not great.

Hadn't run the Focus much in the Winter for a few years, this one it's a DD and after seeing MPG threads constantly I had to check.

2 tanks at 27 mpg & one at 29 is good for mine, that's summer results for mixed driving.

Seen a couple others ask about better results with smaller wheel winter setups this year, figured I'd mention my results & ask for any others seeing similar.

I run 15" steelies for winter. With the cat-back and intake on I'm getting insanely low efficiency while moving but idling kills me. I'm probably around 6L/100km just driving around (and taking it really, really easy) which is actually better than my summer values without the exhaust.

Got some good aerodynamic devices filling the wheel wells & extending back behind the tires to the body.

Not quite color matched, but not far off for black...

The blend must be better this year... I've only been able to drive my car for about a month now and I thought it was my imagination that I was getting better mileage than past winters. The car had been sitting since Sept and I thought the good winter MPG was from being driven again and having fresh gas, despite it being winter blend.

I'm rolling on all seasons, it just snowed for the first time this year, about 3".

Also, this is the first winter I've run with the full sized 05-07 lower radiator deflector on. Helps with aero a little.

I'm getting 27-28 in the winter in my 2005 5 speed, get 31-32 in the summer. Cold temps seem to kill the MPG's,only thing different is the outside temps. I only let the engine idle long enough to have good oil pressure.

This is my first winter with my car, seeing around 27 mpg vs 30 in the winter. But that's with time spent warming up the car which doesn't happen in summer, so I'd say my winter mpg is ok

I seem to be getting a fairly constant 32-33, with snow tires.
I was a bit disappointed I was doing so poorly, but I hadn't thought about the fact that it'll be lower in the winter...

It's a Joke AK, lots of ICE makes up those "aerodynamic devices".
