Question Cold air intake? what the..???

Okay, well I am interested in getting a cold air intake for my car but my friend told me that if I did I would have to switch it every time it rains because if I hit a puddle it can suck water into my engine..is this true? Sorry if this sounds retarded but i'm kinda new towards cars so I apologize for my ignurance.

Also depends wich intake U buy. With the volant CAI you should not need a BYpass valve.I believe with every other brand you will.

Here is a bypass valve manufactured by AEM for their CAI. Their description is pretty good, but it basically allows the engine to draw air from an alternate source in the event the filter/intake tube becomes full of water.

Normal driving in wet weather shouldn't be a problem. Just don't go driving/sitting in a puddle that covers your intake. A splash will be fine.

www.myfordperformance.com has a weather shield for it too. the long tube intake, the only one u would need a bypass valve/weather shield for would be the aem/bomz long tube design. but yes, easily can destroy your engine with it if u live in a wet climate
