What do you think of Ford Ranger?

I had stated before, the Focus is my first car........well.....I miss having a truck so I've been thinking about buying one. Due to parking at my house I can't get a full size so I was thinking of a smaller truck, maybe a Ranger (4.0 V6), Frontier (supercharged), or the Dakota (V8). Anyone have opinions on any of these? I've never owned a small truck so not sure about them. I won't be towing anything, just miss having that ability to haul stuff in the back, and my dogs are miserable in the Focus to be honest.

I don't want to spend anymore than 15 g's, and I'm looking used, preferably under 30,000 miles.

Any pros & cons would be greatly appreciated. Gracias mi amigos!

There are only a few trucks/SUVs I would ever think about owning; Typhoon, Cyclone, & the Cayenne S.

Cyclone & Typhoon, you're talking about 10 yr old vehicles that were really too small anyways......the Cayenne, well obviously a lil outta my price range. So you're no help.

I like the Dakota, I think it's the perfect size and the fact it comes with a V8 excites me. Not fond of the Rams, I test drove one a couple yrs ago...... too heavy, they drive like tanks.

My dad owns a 2002 Chrome Yellow Ranger Edge. It has pretty much everything. It's pretty quick too. Nice truck. He loves it.

I traded in my '88 Ranger Supercab for my Focus wagon. I was the only owner and liked it very much. My only problem with the ranger (even the new ones) is the way the truck can shake over minor repetitive bumps like expansion joints on the highway. The driveshaft vibrated at 60mph also.

I test drove the '03 Ranger 4 liter V6 and it had the same expansion joint shake!

I'm not quite understanding the shaking part, should probably test drive it to understand what you mean.

Do you think with the 4.0 V6 in the Ranger, you would have to regear putting 32 or 33's on it? I had put 33's on my Wrangler that had a 4 liter V6 in it and there was no need for regearing, but 35's on my F150 needed it. I've always lifted my trucks and jeeps so I'm sure I'd wanna do the same even with a smaller truck.

I've had 2 Rangers... both 4WD and both w/the 4 liter. I was happy w/ the trucks but they just weren't quite what I wanted. (I got rid of the last one for a super duty diesel). I would definitely buy another. They continue to rate well in all of the quality surveys and are hard to beat for the money. They are kind of on the small side though. Unless you are hauling the dogs in the back, you have more room in the Focus.
