Angry Son of a...

I just messed up one of the easiest things you could do on a car. Really bad, too.

The wipers on my wifes car were bad, so I got new ones. The whole wiper, not just the blade. Went out to do it. Driver's side went fine, on to the passenger side. I took off the old blade, and had the arm sitting up in the air. Oh, I didn't mention it was pretty windy. The arm fell down and hit the windshield. I thought "No biggie", but when I went to pick it back up, I saw the windshield was broken. Like someone took a small stone and threw it at the windshield. The glass is all busted up where it hit, and then cracks spiderwebbed out from the point of impact, one of which has grown already.

Anyone have any idea how much a windshield is for an '04 Jetta GLS? Good thing I just got a rather large bonus from work that will more than cover the price of a new windshield. It's just really annoying since I wanted to use it to make a huge payment for my car.

Most expensive pair of wiper blades I ever bought.

Ok, stop laughing please.

hey man, sorry to hear your bad luck.

Check a windshield repair place first, before you go replacing anything. Also check your insurance. I know with my insurance (state farm), there is a zero deductable on glass repairs. I've had two windshields replaced for free...

Man that sucks, how very unfortunate for such a simple swap!

Definitely see if you have "Zero-deductible glass" coverage, but if not, from the sounds of it at least, you'd need a replacement, not repair. Just guessing cause you said it spiderwebbed... that's usually tough/unsafe to fix.

I have no clue how much a new windshield is, but it's probably expensive. We have a place around here, Giant Glass... 1-800-64GIANT if I recall the jingle Not sure if they're local or national, but they do good work, and will come out to your car to replace the glass. You want to make sure to go somewhere good so you don't get a leaky Jetta afterwards!

I checked my insurance (American Family) and it only covers repairs, not replacements. And unfortunately, I think it will need to be replaced.

Giant Glass doesn't ring any bells, the one around here with a catchy jingle is "Auto Glass Specialists, we're the guys in the little red trucks" and they all drive around in red Rangers or S10's. Wonder if they'll be in Monday...

I bet you looked like your avatar when it happened! Sucks it happened! A new windshield isn't cheap!

$285 installed for the same windshield. I thought it was gonna be worse, though.
