Plural of Focus

Some people call it "Foci", but I believe it is wrong, because "Focus" is a proper noun and its plural are not the same as an ordinary plural.

Multiple focal points= foci
To focus: = focuses

If there was a car named Criterion, its plural would be Criterions as opposed to Criteria.

Edit: spelling error.

Technically, I agree it would be Focuses... due to the whole proper noun thing.

But I usually call them Foci anyway (not "foci", always capitalized!)

According to a Ford docuemnt, since Focus is a trademark name, the approiate plural form is Focuses. However, Foci is also acceptible.

I hate the term "Foci" and have never used it. Focuses may be a mouthful but it's the appropriate term in this case. I REALLY hate it when people use "foci" to refer to ONE Focus, i.e. "my Foci is going in for brake work."

^^^Now that is irritating, Foci is clearly more than one Focus.

Yeah, sorry Amanda, I'm a little grumpy lately (I know you said you use the term "Foci") but it gets on my nerves, this "Foci" business. It's just one of those unnecessary, incorrect ways of saying something which people seem to cling to for some reason. It bugs me in the same way that it bugs me when people are careless with their pronunciation, and say things like "nukeyahluhr" when the correct word is NUCLEAR! Gah!

you know what I hate...I hate when people pronounce mischievous like:

MIS CHEEV EE US

that just burns my biscuits.

The correct pronunciation is MISS CHIV US

It's one of the most commonly mispronounced words in the English language.

But yeah...I always say Focuses.

but I often type foci. (guess I wont now...now that I know how much it bothers Warren)
