IS the Zetec engine a work horse engine?

I dont want to compare but I have always liked VW and I would say there 2.0 Jetta is a work horse engine.

Im at 30k and am curious of my mileage rate if Im a highway driver who has good maintenance habits

I could always grab the GTI. or mod modding my current focus would be cheaper if I knew I could get a good 120,000 miles out of it or more.

Mine has 180 on it. It is long on the tooth, but 120K over 5 or six years should be no big deal.

IMO, the engine won't last long if it's always seeing the high rpms. The average car just isn't built for this purpose. Adding an intake and exhaust, your gonna be more likely to get on it more, correct? And of course, regular maintence should extend the life of your engine.

^^^ so you say with mods the life of the engine is lowered because people try to drive faster?

what the hell is a workhorse engine? that has no definition. The zetec will last as long as any engine as long as it is taken care of. Mods like the intake won't make a difference in longevity if you keep the water out, and clean air in.

well, you could say that diesel is a workhorse engine. it will outlast the gas one by miles.
