Question Exposed cloth in rear wheel wells?!

I was looking all around my new car and noticed something wierd. Whats with the exposed cloth under the rear wheel wells? The whole area above the tire is what Im talkign about. Its all cloth, like the material in the trunk. Is my focus missing some body pieces under there or are the foci built like this?

I think there's a thread somewhere else about that. Mine is like that too, apparently normal sound deadening material. Mine is intact with 11K miles, but it definately looked odd at first.

Nah they don't get destroyed at all, although I kind of noticed the car develops some mean "fenderburgs", I guess it likes to stick to the fabric or something
