Silly Questions on my New Focus

I picked up my new Focus yesterday. I love my new Car.

I have a couple of quick questions:

What's up with the Chimes that go off every couple of seconds when I don't have my seat belt on. Is there anyway I can turn this off. I know I should have my seat belt on, but I was wondering if I could turn the Chimes off.

I have a 5 speed manual, ZX5 SE Model. It seems like I'm not getting great gas milage. Is this normal? If I had about 1/4 tank of Gas in the Car, about roughly how much would it cost to fill the tank.

I didn't get the extended warranty. Everyone is telling me that I should have gotten it. I think it's a waste of $$$. Am I fool for not getting the extended warranty.

I put about 20,000 miles a year on my cars. How do Focus' usually hold up after 100,000 miles.

Thanks!

Take Care

Yes. Its in your manual. It involves buckling and unbuckling in sequence. But always wear your belt!

What kind of mileage are you getting?

Give it some time. It should go up.

I tried the unbuckling buckling thing with my zx3 SE, but it hasn't worked.

Also, what are you shifting at? this changes the mileage dramtically.

yeah, that will lower your mileage. in normal driving, I try to shift by 3500. I prolly average 26 mpg, but I like the sound of muh engine at 6-7k too much for my own good!

AS for the gas, it all depends on how many gallons you've used when you fill up and the price of gas you're using! I usually fill mine when it gets near the 1/4 mark. The Focus tank, at least mine and I think the 05s have the same, is just over 14 gallons total. The "gas dummy light" comes on with about 2 gal left. But typically I put in around 11 gallons at a fill-up so you're looking at about $24 at the tank, assuming gas is around $2.20/gallon.

As for extended warranty, some people swear by it and some don't bother. I'm in the second group... my car's been beautifully reliable and I don't feel like paying extra In Case something happens afte 36k that they'd cover. At that point I'll fix it myself or have an independent mechanic do it if I can't. It's all personal preference though, in the end.

As far as reliability, there are several older model Foci with in excess of 100k and going stong with regular maintenance. Also, the engine platform your 05 is built on has shown to be durable (Duratec, get it) and capable of getting into high mileage as long as it's taken care of.

Welcome to FF and good luck with your new car, I'm sure the gas mileage will get better shortly.

If I followed the shift light, I'd be in fifth before I backed out of my drive way.
