part name? (non focus)

i have a 2003 grand am i am turning in soon and need to replace the black part that hangs off the bottom of the front bumper. i need to find out what its called so i can get a new one. you can see it hanging down HERE

It is an aerodynamic aid. It helps the airflow underneath the car. Just go to the dealer and explain what it is. They will pull up pictures and get a part number for you.

Actually, that piece is not there for looks. It is called an air deflector. The purpose of this piece is to deflect air upwards twords the radiator to aid in cooling. Taking this piece off will result in the engine running at slightly higher than normal temperatures.

When you replace this piece, it is also a good idea to replace the springs that hold it to the underbody splash shield. These are usually worn out also when the deflector needs replacing, and they are not that expensive.

my friend has a GA, his deflector broke apart so he just took it off. his runs at the same temp without it
