Vw Gti

I am pretty close to buying a 05 GTI with leather sunroof for about 21,800. What are some of the opinions on this ride. I have test ridden it many many times last week and it is an awesome ride. The 1.8T engine is just a marvel. Torque like a truck and revs like a sportscar. I am only scared by VW's rep for reliablity.

mk4 VW's aren't know for their reliability (no worse than a Focus) but are fun to drive. Not as fun as the mk2 or mk3's, but fun none the less. For $600, you can chip the 1.8T and make it REAL fun. I say buy it, just don't pay alot.

Yeah. A lot of VW dealerships mark their cars up a LOT over invoice. So try to work your way in with the dealer to get the best price possible. Agreed that the 1.8t is a great engine to work with. A simple chip will do wonders. Good luck with it all.

blah.....look for a VR6 or even a R34 if u could find one, that be sweet...but i just think the turbos are too small in the 1.8t's do not provied enough power compared to other ones you can get. Thats my only problem with them, other then that they are cool rides...if u manage a good deal, go for it

I owned a 2002 Jetta 1.8 turbo. Fun car, good fit and finish, good handling decent mileage (if you can keep your foot out of it). Reliability was not a problem after replacing coil packs (dealer cost). Yeah you can pay more for more hp but the 1.8 is plenty quick for all round zippin' around the city. I only traded mine for more room.

Have you considered holding out for the new GTI that's coming? Obviously since it's brand new I have no idea how the reliability will compare to the current model. It's a completely new model, not just a "facelift" of the previous model, and supposedly VW made a lot of improvements (although the new styling isn't everyone's cup of tea, so to speak).

I am considering the 05 GTI because the 06 GTI interior is kind of ugly and not as comfortable. The 06 GTI has the same interior as the new Jetta that is out. I find the current gti one of the most comfortable cabins out there. I know I will giving up some performance. The new gti coming will be 200 hp and 207 lbs torque which is killer.
