Smoker's Package Transplant

I swapped my Dad's ash tray and lighter from his '01 Focus into my '03 Focus (he doesn't smoke, but had the ash tray, etc), and all is well, except that I have no ash tray light. Is there a fuse that's simply no installed, or other "quick fix" to provide a little illumination for the ash tray? Thanks.

I believe there is a harness with the "smokers" kit that handles the extra draw of the cigarette lighter. It's almost a direct short to heat the coil up and I would do a little more research, I would call the dealer and ask them what parts the "smokers" kit comes with.
not worth the fire if you are wrong

Thanks. You make a good point. I don't really ever use the lighter, but wouldn't mind a "backlight". I (perhaps incorrectly) assumed Ford would have made the option a simple one, but who knows.

easier solution is to quit smoking. then you would have a lot less to worry about. resale value for your car would be better too. haven't you heard? every one wants to quit smoking. anymore, only uneducated trailer trash smoke. it took me two solid years of trying before i finally quit. best thing i have ever done. alowed me to afford my car. your young.. quit while it is easy. and don't give me the crap of how your going to die anyways... there is something called quality of live that smoking takes away from you long before you die of the crap. Just my .02 cents

So vanace, that makes me uneducated trailer trash?? For the record I have two college degrees and live in a regular old immovable house.

As for the original post, I don't know that there is any kind of ashtray light at all. My car appears to be equipped with a smoker's package, but there is no light.

can't say that trailer trash was necessary. What, I would do: Get a 12v LED setup and just rig up my own light from the ignition. Every time the key is on, the power will be supplied to an LED which draws nearly no power at all.

You don't have to quit smoking but at least don't smoke in the car. It will help the resale and cut down on how much you smoke too, my aunt stoped smoking in the car and cut her smoking by a pack+ a day.

Thanks. I appreciate your 02 cents, and the concern for your fellow human being's welfare. I have quit several times, for as long as 3 years at one time. Basically though, I've never had a time in my life (as a non-smoker) that I didn't still think about smoking. Basically, I just enjoy it, and yes, I know there's a fair chance it may be responsible for my demise. OTOH, and although on the surface this may seem a bit insensitive, I often think about the poor souls that lost their lives in the attack on the WTC. And, of course, other folks who meet an untimely, horrible death. I think about them, and I think, "I wonder how many of those people had recently gone on diets, or started working out, or quit smoking?" In short, how many people denied themselves the things they enjoyed, with the expectation that they'd be doing themselves some good? Life is short, and I look at every day, as "icing on the cake". I've pretty much committed to choosing my "poison" without looking back. I know it's not the necessarily the brightest move, but, that's me. Again though, you make a good point, and certainly, statistically, it makes sense *not* to smoke. I'm not denying that.

Good idea, and I think I may go that route. Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I guess they just figure you'll eventually get good at fumbling for the thing in the dark, or at using the light on the end of the cigarette as a source of illumination. :)
