"For a 911 owner who needs a family hauler—they have to leave the brand."

isnt that what a turbo Cayenne is for?

That's a statement. It's like saying a Boss 302 owner has to leave Ford when he starts having kids. Anyone who has paid ANY attention to Porsche in the last decade knows they have an SUV. Mr. Ferris.....please stop writing about cars.

Mr. Libby & IHS may be able to do statistics, but they aren't great at interpretation or product knowledge.

No brand loyalty since that would limit my choices too much. I like Ford Mustangs and of course my Focus but the Flex is atrocious and while their trucks are great they aren't my taste. I am partial to Toyota trucks but most of their line is pretty vanilla and outside the WRX/STI I wouldn't even consider a Subaru so no loyalty for me but I do have my brands I will never buy from.

but think about the average consumer buying an average people mover... i could see them sticking to the same thing year after year and not even bother shopping around. I'd agree with you though, not going to limit myself to one brand next time i am in the market for a car/truck. Just like whatever i am shopping for, i shop around and find whats the best for me

Yeah, you are right when it comes to the average buyer and if they have a good experience with a brand they most likely stick with it.

Toyota has been living on brand loyalty for decades. It definitely exists among the Camry crowd.

Brand loyalty is for people unable and/or unwilling to make their own decisions.

Best thing to do is set aside your preferences and prejudices and pick the best car at the best price for what you need. You might find you like a car that was on your "do not drive" list. I know I did.

Camrys are pretty boring but they sell like crazy and my friend's dad has one with almost 400,000 miles on it and they just bought a new one.
