I mean, it could survive but not likely. I had a timing belt blow on a interference motor, it survived, scary as shit though not something you want to encounter so either way make sure it is good to go. Like he said modded cars are not the best to buy.

the motors on the focus are interference motors with or without vct, so if the timing chain goes the motor will likely bend the valves and mess up the pistons. check the compression on the motor check to see if theres any dirt/debri/oil in the intake and check all your vaccum lines and the pcv valve and make sure if it has any leaks or not. and as far as maintenance on the timing belt id change it after 100k miles

The regular Zetec I believe is non-inference.

Chain?

No they are not!

I can tell you that without a doubt the standard zetec is non-interference.
I have personally broken a belt, no damage.
I have personally removed the timing belt, moved a piston to TDC and freely rotated the cams. No contact or damage.
I do not know of anyone with a zetec who has had engine damage from a broken belt.

The SVT, it's hit or miss. It is interference. But as mentioned above, the conditions and actions after the break determine if and how much damage is done.

Both engines are driven by a timing belt.


The later engines, Duratec, is driven by a timing chain. Which does not break as belts do.

60k is a little excessive and OVER protective Id say every 90-100k do the timing assembly for the SVT Ive done 3 so far My car was at 97k and the other 2 were in the 115-120k range
