This is getting interesting...

I know this has been discussed before but the HP figures for the upcoming 4 cylinder Mustang seem to keep going up.
A 300+ HP turbo 4 with RWD at a reasonable price sounds pretty good.


"The base 2015 Mustang will continue to be offered with a V6 engine. Power should remain similar to the Mustang's current ratings of 305 horsepower and 280 lb-ft or torque.

In a bit of a twist, Ford will offer an EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder as the Mustang's mid-level engine. Although down on cylinders compared to the V6, the four-banger should produce 350 horsepower and 300+ lb-ft of torque. No word yet on whether Ford plans to brand the four-cylinder Mustang as the SVO.

Ford's 5.0L Coyote V8 will continue to power the 2015 Mustang GT, but power should grow from today's 420 horsepower to 450 horsepower."

350 hp and 300 plus tq from a 4 banger turbo in a rwd platform is insane. I might need to start saving my pennies, but I think this article is a lot of Tom-foolery.

It seems that every major car mag has confirmed the existence of a turbo 4 for the 2015 Mustang.

It has to outperform the V6 so it should be the "killer" EcoBoost engine, shared only with the upcoming Focus RS.
It's not going to be another transplanted SUV engine like the 2.0.

With RWD, an independent rear, and a "real" shifter (i.e. not a shite cable shifter), this car could be a blast.

Hopefully Ford will lose the retro dash with the chrome bezels.

I remember hearing about this on top gear they hated it, at the time. I hated the idea of it, but it's growing on me. i'm curious on the new styling, from what I've seen I don't like it. It's not mustang enough.

Ford is going to have to do a real balancing act with the the styling in order to appeal to European buyers without turning off too many Mustang purists.
One thing seems certain: retro is out.

Regardless of the appearance, I think the turbo Mustang will be considered a true sports car (from a driving perspective) and not so much a pony car.

The rumored 2.3L mill was also speculated to be going into the Lincoln MKC over and beyond the 2.0L from the Escape, which would invalidate the it's not an SUV/CUV motor theory if true. At least in a varying state of tune.

The 2.0 L ecoBoost is already used in pretty much all of Ford's line up short of the Fiesta, and the Expedition. Hence the production expansion in Cleveland for this engine for North American consumption in 2014 and beyond.

I think this is awesome! I love the Ecoboost platform and i think it is brilliant to put it in the mustang. it would be one of those things to help push the mustang into the hands of people who where always turned away because of the gas consumption. I want to know what the MPG ratings will be. Heck if it could get close to 25 MPG that would be awesome!
