Kill switch question

Civics are one of the most-stolen cars, in the top 3, according to what I've Googled. I also see all over Honda/Civic forums where people have had their car stolen. I don't want to be one of them.

So here's my question, my Civic requires the clutch to be engaged before it'll turn over, so when a thief hot-wires a car like this, do they just push the clutch pedal while they do so? Do they bypass the clutch switch (what tells the car it's engaged) first? Or do they just give up on a car they can't start by just punching the column?

I am going to be installing a hidden kill switch, I am just not sure what exactly I want to kill with it. My choices/ideas are the clutch engage switch, the fuel injectors or the fuel pump.

I would really like to go the clutch route, it seems the easiest and less risky. But if a thief is going to go right for that switch anyway, it doesn't make much sense. Whatever I do I plan to put plastic looming and electrical tape over the wiring to make it look like it came from the factory and isn't right in the thief's face.

Haha, I've thought of this in my foci to... clutch and or fuel pump "kill switch" hidden in the glove box and or tucked under seat...

Or just jack the fuel pump fuse xD

I was thinking about putting the switch in the ashtray that's in the back of the center console, the ashtray for the back seat. It's just a single piece of plastic that pivots open. It would be easy enough to reach from the driver's seat but wouldn't be up front where they might look.

the clutch safety switch just gets bypassed anyway. The civic column sucks too, it's pretty easy to get to.

With that in mind, disable something that's hard to get to and not visible by popping the hood. Perhaps the coil power wire further back in the harness. Or fuel injectors as you mentioned.

A good thief can find your "special" hidden kill switch in seconds flat. My thought is to install a dummy or second switch somewhere that they would think to look first. It could be enough to throw them off. Just think of where "you" think would be a good hiding place....now forget about putting it there. Don't post up your hiding place either.

cool idea for someone, though it wouldn't work for all. install a non-powered CIG lighter with a push button inside. use the lighter portion to hide the button.

I think the ash tray is a good idea, but you just posted where it would go. you never know, right?

"Dummy" switch is a good idea, one that does nothing but light up when you flip it would seem to be functional.

As mike mentioned, handy hiding places aren't the best. Hidden in plain sight, like a push button to turn on an accessory you don't actually have, might be the best.

Luck!

a couple different kill switches is the best option. they usually expect one if it doesn't start right away.
they longer they have to stay around, they know their chance of getting caught goes up.

I would do three kill switches and have them varied in vertical or horizontal positions so you couldn't guess which way was on or for what lol!
