Advise needed from my FF Family

I own a 2001 ZX3 with 148000 miles but is super clean and I have the option to purchase a 2002 SVT with 80000 miles but it needs about 1100-1200 in work to be perfect the cost of the car is $2400.00 The ZX3 I paid $2000.00 Is the SVT worth the purchase??????? KBB says 4400-5400 value

Mass air flow needs to be replaced. And some body work. I have a friend who paints for Porsche and he will do the body work for me. All in total with the body work maybe 1500.00The interior of the car is very clean. Timing belt replaced and water pump. bought a code reader and scanner and apart from the mass air flow no problems

I guess as long as the body work is not too bad that is probably a good deal if it is mechanically sound. Personally I hate body work, but that is because I don't know anyone who does it. Mechanically I can fix anything that needs fixing, I have my current 02 SVT to thank for that though.

Any accidents or aftermarket parts?

If thats all it needs & you can get the body work dealt w/ Then I'd go for it. Drive it around for a few weeks & see what else you run into, then give it to your buddy for the body & paint work.

No accidents and the only aftermarket part is a AEN breather which will be removed ASAP

Mass air flow is extremely easy to fix so if it is that is the main thing mechanically wrong I'd take a shot at the body work as long as there is no frame damage.

Shoot.. If its the MAF I'd try cleaning it first before even replacing it... Pick up some cleaner at ur local parts store.. Clean it. Once dried put it in and reset the code... Careful because the MAF is a very delicate piece of electronics.. but that should solve whatever code is throwing... Are you having idle issue?

Agreed with a good cleaning attempt above first. No reason to buy a part when a good cleaning will do.

Its getting harder and harder to find SVTs for sale with less than a 100k on the odometer too. The ones with less than 60k all seem to be asking $6-7k+ too. I'd say go for it if you get the car and the work done for less than $4k when all is said and done.
