I want to see a real test with numbers,that was just some guys opinion and I want numbers to see how big a diff there really is between the two.

For me it would be the more powerful Focus no questions asked since I like the better starting point.

See I'd probably be on the other side of the fence, I think the Fiesta would be the better starting point. It's easy to add power, not so easy to remove weight. The Fiesta has a 500 lb weight advantage right out of the gate, and from what we're hearing so far it handles on par with, if not better than, the Focus. But it needs wider tires IMO (225s should do). Superchips in the UK has tuned the 1.6t 180 PS version and gained 20 bhp and 32 ft/lbs. I believe I read somewhere that Cobb will be supporting the 1.6 and offering tunes and staged performance packs.

Wow,why the hostility,bad morning?

I'm not bagging on the guy but there was little revealed in that test and I like to see numbers around the track since that gives us something we can universally compare the two by. Actually the reviewer and I seem to be in the same boat since I do agree with his opinion.

I'm wondering what the limits of the engines are based on horsepower figures since the bigger engine may handle more power and it has more torque down low which is the key to get the car moving.

I think numbers will have to wait until it is actually released. The tendency to focus on the subjective rather than the objective seems to be the case with pre-production reviews like this one. I'm excited to see what kind of slalom and skidpad numbers the Fiesta can put down. Gonna be hard to beat the 0.96g that the Focus can do.

The real winners are anybody who buys either one since this is all good for the sport compact market since some automotive pundits were predicting doom and gloom for the sporty compact market just 10 years ago. It's exciting to see small cars with sub $30k pricetags coupled with solid HP numbers being relevant.

Even though I think it looks a little goofy (I'm biased, don't judge), I can honestly imagine the Fiesta ST being more fun than the Focus ST. As stated above, it's easier to add power than remove weight. A 500 lb starting difference is massive, especially when concerned with OEM power. OEM power is kind of irrelevant, as there will probably be a tune nearly out-the-gate like the Focus ST had. It seems like the deciding factor will lie more in the 'how much room do you need'.

I remember how light and nimble my Mk1 felt when I bought it. The Focus has definitely lost a lot of that feel, and I would be interested in having it again. Now that the Focus has moved upscale, I'm interested in seeing how it's successor does...

Remember how the European Fiesta ST had supposedly less HP than the US ST? Not really the case:

Turns out the power output is exactly the same. The US numbers are quoted while using the overboost function (as they should be, that's the engines max power output). Due to advertising red tape, the European numbers are quoted without overboost.

So, since the power output is the same, and the Europeans get both projector lights and the 3-door, we still get the "watered down" version. (I still prefer the 5-door though.)
