How to Tell It's a 2.3 Motor

Looking for a used 2004. Is there a way to tell for sure the engine is 2.3. Does the VIN have one of the digits that denotes which type of motor 2.0 or 2.3. Want to be sure.

Thanks

loot at it. open the hood. If there is a coil pack on top of the motor it is the 2.3. I believe that all of the 2k4's were 2.3L

Chaney: Thanks. I believe some of the 2004's came with a 2.0. That is listed as base engine on a number of web sites. I also looked at some dealer inventory online and they show 2.0 and 2.3 in some cars.

hmm ok. But it will look much different the the 2.0. The 2.0 looks like a standard engine, heat shield and exhust comming out the front

the 2.3 with have plastic in the front and the exhust out the rear of the bay..

Here is a Pic of the Motor

Looks like a 2.3 to me. Each plug has it's own coil.
