This car is a slug under 3k. I usually shift between 4k and 5k as I enjoy the whole drive a slow car fast thing. If I wanted to maximize smoothness and fuel economy I would grandma shift or better yet would have gotten the auto/dct.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess another part of it is how much throttle you're giving it too. I'm probably around 40% or so if I had to guess. I'm still trying to work it out so that I don't have that horrible jerk going from a stop to 1st, and from 1st to 2nd. Only thing I noticed that helps is shifting early, but you can't if you're trying to accelerate fast because you have no power when you do that.

I generally shift around 2200-3200. And when I'm getting on it, either around 4000-redline.

True enough. Or certain hybrid designs, where you run the gas motor at its most efficient RPM to recharge the batteries.

I drive a 1.6 common-rail diesel.
So at normal local traffic its around 2-2.5K.
When I want to accelerate really fast I push it to 3-3.5K.
At that point you reach your max torque.
It makes plenty people surprise it can accelerate pretty fast, for being only a 1.6.

I love my 6speed manual btw.

When you guys accelerate hard, do any of you still get jerkings after any gear change, especially 1-2? I'm still trying to find the sweet spot to release the clutch and go.

Oh yeah I know it is, I'm trying to figure it out. I'm still trying to understand how people can accel so fast, with bearly any time off the gas. Experience I'm sure.
