Bad mpg......help

I recently calculated that im m only arveraging about 10 miles per gallon. I do alot of around town driving with moderate stop and go traffic, but should this cause me to lose 13 miles. i know the car is suppose to get 23 mpg city. but that is only estimated but still 10 miles per gallon is pretty crappy. Plus most about half of my driving is on 45, 55 mph roads so i would persume i woudl save some gas. maybe the gas i get is just trashy. I have a focus and suppose to get good mpg, but doesnt, so what.....if i had a V8 suv does that mean that i would get like 2 miles per gallon...lol...ne way i wanted to ask u guys first, before i asked the dealer about it, which would probably be a waste of time. thanks

umm, something seems wrong, you should not be getting anywhere near 10 mpg unless you WOT everywhere. try putting different gas in there, might be just bad gas. Other wise i would take it to the dealer to see whats up, cause your warrenty will cover it probably.

could it possibly be a problem with the fuel injectors or maybe the plug wires or something, probably have to bring it to dealer to find out though.

I hope you got a F in math when you were in highschool, b/c I couldn't image a focus with only 10mpg... i get like 29 to 30mpg average!! but in winter is more like 23mpg, since i warm my car a bit up here in Canada!

YOu should try reseting the computer in your car myn was getting really bad mileage after a while so i unpluged the batterie and let it sit for a couple of hours while i install some new parts when i reconected it i thought my gas needle was broken it gets almost 300 per tank.

check air filter, PCV valve, plugs, and wires... It is a 2003 so your plugs should be good. Maybe thow a bottle of fuel injector cleaners in. At the dealerships it is like 150-300 bucks. Try they 5.99 bottle of it.

Maybe the new parts made the difference? How would resetting the compu affect the mileage?

thanks for the input guys except from 2000fordfocus, i didnt get an F in math in high school alright buddy, but u do the math. I have school 4 days a week. I need a full tank of gas to get through the 4 days and i have alittle left over at the end of the week like 1 or 2 gallons. I drive 32 miles a day. And it is a 13 gallon tank. Soo it comes out to me driving 128 miles. so whats 128 divided by 13....9.8 something so its almost 10 miles per gallon......or am i wrong? There is obvously something wrong with the computer or the mechanics therefore im going to take the advice from the more helpful people. Thank for those who actualyl tried to help instead of just putting me down and saying "oh I hope you got a F in math when you were in highschool."
