Focus plant named "Assembly Plant of the Year"

Ford's Michigan Assembly Plant (MAP) named "Assembly Plant of the Year 2012"

The cover story in this month's Assembly magazine by Senior Editor Austin Weber showcases Ford's Michigan Assembly Plant where they manufacture gas-powered, electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models all on the same assembly line, a worldwide first. They build four versions of the Focus (including the new ST) and two versions of the C-max crossover. Ford invested $550 million to update MAP, replacing 70% of the equipment and recycling more than 10 million pounds of steel. The plant is partially powered by rooftop solar panels, uses electric rather than gasoline-powered switcher trucks to transport parts around the plant and is quieter thanks to electric power tools rather than hydraulic. Fully adaptive welders adjust welding parameters in real time to create cleaner welds and tighter tolerances without showers of sparks. And among the 366 new robots is "Godzilla," a heavy-duty six-axis machine that precisely picks up and moves car bodies to and from skids.

From the article:

"Our flexible manufacturing system has given this plant the opportunity to increase production by 30 percent, while handling a 300 percent increase in complexity," claims Anthony Hoskins, Ford's director of manufacturing and former MAP plant manager. "[This plant] epitomizes the best of what Ford stands for -- fuel efficiency, quality and smart technology."

Ford too

Ford took bailout $$$ under the Bush administration. Google it. Why do you think they had the $$$ to retool as GM was being murdered by the Republican party and their Southern Governor cronies who hate Unions?
Speaking of bailouts...what would you call Mississippi and Alabama - the two sorriest excuses for states in the country, after they gave Mercedes and Hyundai 3 and 4 billion of taxpayer $$$ to move to the South. Lots of poor people and compliant politicians.
