toyota and scion

well yesterday after work, we had a meeting with a scion rep and he came to talk to us about the xa xb, upcoming tc, which i won't say anything about (nothing will be said until the detroit auto show when the info is released) and a few other things, seems they will be on the east coast on Feb, 3rd....but what do you guys think of the new scions?...they have 40 accessories to choose from, which most of it the dealer installs (aem intake, trd exhaust and suspension, hotckis strut bar, neons, systems with subs, up to 19" wheels and so much more)...right now toyota's average age is 46 and scion is 32, do you think it will be a big hit or die off due to the lack of horsepower?...

i talked to the guy for quite some time after the meeting and he kinda thought twice about there advertising being that the thing going now is cheap horsepower, something the scion lacks with having the vvti 105hp motor from the echo...so who you pay 14g's for a rolling bus thats slow as shit but gets good gas milage?.. i'd like to know what you all think.

Not sure what the MPG's are but I think most people who buy cheap cars aren't looking for any hugh HP. I mean, people don't buy Hyundai or Kia because of their HP but because of their cheap price. I think with Toyota, you might be getting higher quality then the Koren cars but usually it's the price that lures people to the Koren cars.

So ,14K for a cheap car really isn't cheap concidering you can get one of those Koren cars for about 7K.

I think Toyota needs to look in to the other cars in the 13-16K price range and see if they are competitive as far as price, features and MPG.

FYI-

yea but thats the thing...ok, they took some surveys and saw that only one in 3 people spend more than 3g's on there car....as for what they call the "Y" generation...these weren't geared for people wanting cars for mpg...they were geared for tuners under the age of 30

My Gf wants the boxxy one. The accessories is where toyota will make the money. $300 for foglights is a rip off. But you can get an exhaust and air intake and Bazooka sub and all kind of stuff. I just wish one day Toyota comes out with something exciting one day.

Scion is a cute idea. Just wish they had more power out of the box.

The exhaust does have a borla tip I believe. Or it might just be a Borla tip and that's it, not a full exhaust. I saw it on the scion website.

Aside for Horsepower I think the car is great. You cant beat Toyota quality, reliability, or dependability. I personally would have had a hard decision if the Scions were available. However....If you actually drive a Toyota you will notice that even though their HP rating are typically lower there gearing is such that they actually feel as strong as other more powerful motors. Take for instance the Camry 4cyl. Drive it, then drive a honda or Nissan that has more HP. The camry will feel just as good. And its a better built car.

Also the TRD is currently designing a supercharger kit for either the Xa I believe or both. So that will give the speed demons the anticapated power they were looking for.
