Interesting thing about used Plug-Ins

Well, I don't know what I was thinking, but I felt like searching Ebay for Leafs. The other night I was going up an on-ramp, and was literally blown away by a Leaf. I'd have had to floor it to catch up. The Leaf's specs don't point towards it's uphill acceleration, but I can tell you that it does well.

Now I thought it would be fun to search Ebay for Leafs and Volts. Anyone following the plug-in car battle knows that the Volt has far surpassed the Leaf in sales. The Focus Electric doesn't even count, and plug-in Priuses are an equal rarity.

What's so strange? In spite of lower sales volume, used Leafs show up on Ebay much more often than Volts. There were a few used Volts, but most on Ebay were dealer demo cars, or new models with no mileage. With GM offering a $10k discount on new Volts as well as a low price lease option- what does that mean for the Leaf that was slated to get it's own dedicated US factory from a converted Frontier factory in Smyrna?

IDK, I was surprised to see one in Memphis, although we did recently add a recharging station at one of our local parks.

You might be on to something there. I think the Leaf used NiMH batteries, but I'd have to go do some research. Those would be adversely affected by heat. Not sure about Li versions, or the new LiFeMnPO4 that I was interested in for my own project that is totally not off the ground.

I see: Nissan Leaf Owners take up lawsuit for batteries that lose range in high heat
