Question Whats with the dots on the windshield?

My focus has a a pattern of black dots printed on the inside of the windshield up above the rear view mirror. What is their purpose? My wife's honda crv has the exact same thing.

same as having a 4" tint strip some cars have from the factory. Reduces upper glare and sun in your eyes where the visors cant affect very well

That's the only thing I can think of, too. Some cars (General Motors comes to mind) also use that spot as a convenient place to hide something like a rain sensor for rain-activated wipers, so that from the outside of the car you don't see an obvious doohicky stuck to the inside of the windshield.

I think it also helps with defrosting

Nah, I'm pretty sure defrosting is only from the vents on the front windshield. Now the rear window has those lines that heat up to defrost the window, but not the front.

I believe carrierx is right about the tint from the sun glare.

Yeah... I thought about the sun thing too, but what threw me off is that there is a thin continuous line running along the outside edge (it's printed on the glass just like the dots themselves). I thought maybe a current ran through it for some reason. Can't be the antenna- that's on top. Must be just for sun... Damn! I was hoping for something more exotic! Well, thanks for the input.

How about a tint line over the dots???

Sorry to hijack this airplane, but does anyone know if there are any complications in putting a tint strip at the top of the windshield? I know that on my quarters, it sits funny over the bumps. Anyone have the strip?

Yeah, you just have to lightly sand the dots flat so the tint adheres better, use good quality tint!
