Made the right choice, no MFT

While I am on vacation in Florida I rented a 2013 Escape, 2.0 ecoboost, SEL, leather, big sunroof and of course MFT. My 22012 focus se was ordered without it on purpose with sync and satellite only. This escape had 3000 miles on it when I picked it up at Tampa airport and already there are problems. The touch screen is not to my taste but that is another discussion. The actual physical controls in the center stack, seek, volume knob, source etc, only work half the time. The steering wheel control will change volume but I can't manually change stations. A few minutes later, or maybe the next time I start it they work for a while. Using the touch screen will work and you can turn the radio off using your voice but this seems like a different complaint for MFT.

On another note, the 247 hp engine is fast, but not like you would think. The 6 speed transmission is not the Focus auto everyone loves or hates, but still acts strangely. Sometimes at parking lot speeds it seems to over rev and suddenly engage with a big jolt.

I am too budget conscious to pay all that money for the Escape but it is a nice package overall. I need my 45mpg on the highway instead of 21. Optioned the right way it could be nice. Ideally a 1.6 ecoboost 5 speed but that won't happen.

Good to know. I've been shopping for a Focus and the lure of the Sony stereo had me caving into the idea of MFT, even though I hate touch-screens. When will manufacturers learn that getting rid of the knob is akin to trying to reinvent the wheel?

I have had MFT with the touch screen nav system for 7 months now. Since the software upgrade in March , I have not had any problems.

Never depend on what you get in a rental car. People do not treat them like it is their own

The MFT I played with at the dealer worked flawlessly. Have lots of voice commands to learn though :\
I wanted to play with it for a while since I knew I was ordering it with my Ti no matter what and that boosted my confidence in it. It was a 2012 model so surely the 2013 would be the same or better right? hah.
