The new GTO

What do you guys think of the new 04 GTO ?

I love everything about it except the name/look mismatch. If it came over as a Pontiac Monaro, I would 100% cool. But I'm having a tough time seeing that body as a GTO.

But I love its setup.

I don't like it and some of the magazines are kinda giving it mixed reviews.

The style is a bit bland and I wish the exhaust came out on both side, but I can understand why they did it. Other than that, I really like it.

For $33k it's a rip off period. It'll go toe to toe with a Mustang GT but you can get the mustang for 10k less. The GTO's seats are nice and they better damn well be for 33K. One thing is kinda wierd, the cluster's LCD display flashes a "rest reminder" every two hours with a little pixilated image of a tree and picnic table. Now if anything tells you that this car is one mean machine it has to be that. And the wheels look like they belong on a Beetle. The trunk is only 7 cu ft and the styling is definately not American. So it gets down the 1/4 mile in 14.0 at 102 gets the same economy as a Mustang GT and a Mustang does 1/4 ~ 14.1 at 105. But it cost 10K more. So you get a Cobra for the same price and go hunts some Vette's.

I agree totally with focus,, I said in a post way back in august that this car was a piece of junk and not worthy of the GTO name. GM needs to get their heads out of their asses and start using common sense here. You don't just throw around a name like GTO and put in on a crappy looking car. There is no retro in it at all and looks like verything else Pontiac offers. (except for the Aztek thank god)

It's the 5.7L V8 that's in the Vette/Camaro/Trans Am I'm sure it does the 1/4 in less than 14.0 I'm guessing more mid/low 13's...the GTP can compete w/ stock Stang GT's with less than $100 in mods.

Nope of all the reviews I have seen the lowest was 14.0 at 102. The "GTO" weighs 3821 pounds which puts some SUV's to shame. That's about 550 pounds more than a base vette. The only real thing they did was move the fuel tank from below the trunk floor to inside the trunk. That way the car wouldn't blow up in a rear end collision. What's also kinda wierd is that GM has already said they will only make the "GTO" for three years.
For 33k you get a car with a V8 and RWD and really nice seats. Only option is the 6 speed. No sunroof, no navigation, no seat heaters, no OnStar. So is this car suppose to be a muscle car or a cruiser. I say none of the above, just a car to make some quick cash for GM.

All the new GTO is, is a Grand Prix with a different grill, body kit and a bigger engine... I am sorry but GM lost all respect from me with the body style of their cars after 1970.
