Buying 2000 Ford Focus 2ltr Zetec

Hey There Guys,

Bin looking at a 2000 Ford Focus 2.0 Zetec ESP recently, its only got 67k on the clock, 12 months mot and tax, looks a luvly lil motor in black tbh...

Now i was just about to buy this car when one of my mates from work said watch out for the 2ltr Zetec engine in the ford Monedo & Focus as theyve got a common problem, Now im not sure how much he knows about cars tbh, but its put abit of doubt in the back of my said, so i thought the next best option would be too come on here and ask the people who do know alot about and drive these cars before i consider buying this car, i really like the car itself, just dont wanna end up finding out theres bad common problems with this car/engine after buying it...

Also is there anything too look out for when buying this car, with it being 12 yrs old now?,

Any help would be very greatful,

Kind Regards,

Darren.

Only problems that come to mind with the 2000 Focus would be the thermostat housing problem. If I think of more I will chime in and let you know.

I've got a 2002 with a Zetec in it and have had 0 engine problems... I just drove it 12k miles around the US and the only problem I had was a radio wire shorting on my new headunit.

If it is a zetec engine no real issues.. there was a recall on the fuel pump and the t-stat housing had issues.. other than that very strong engines... Now I'm not 100% sure if you boys overseas got the SPI engine.. that has the valve seat failure...

I have a 2000 zx3 at 110,000 miles, it ran beautiful til it hit 105,000. Engine blew up, well more of a catastrophic failure. Bad catalytic conver probably didnt help the engine failure, I've had my focus since 2007 and since then i've replaced a timing belt, bad wheel bearing, which those were all in the beginning. A brand new engine, (mind you ztec engine isnt cheap) with all its hoses, A new converter, my transmission bearing is going bad, replacing that now, and my suspension is now going. please dont ask how much all that cost lol. Zetecs are pretty strong cars, all these problems went with age, I love my focus or I wouldn't have ressurrected it lol. The interior doesnt hold up very well, as in its all plastic, my wiring has shorts in it. In a nutshell what I'm saying is, if you love focus and will take care of the car, get it. Once it hits 100,000 things start to die and need replaced, but its a reliable car til then. as in every car.
