Is all gas the same?

Been noticing lately that all of the big gas companies are advertising how their additives are better for your engine. Shell with their nitrogen enriched gas, Petro Canada with their tactrol additives and Esso just saying just saying that they sell the cleanest gas lol

Anyway is one really better than the other? I'm just talking about regular 87 here. From what I recall Esso had the worse quality gas back in the day...

Most gasoline from a particular area comes from ONE place. The big companies have their own additive packages added at the fueling station.
Maybe near some refineries a few different wholesale places sell gas to one area. But ANYWHERE away from refineries, the gas is just ONE pile of gas, that everyone gets theirs from.
Around the SE Wisconsin, it sits on some gasoline pipeline out near Menomonee Falls. Gasoline trucks roll out of there all day long every day...
All the gas for SE wisconsin comes from there.
And usually the additives are cheap in regular. but better in Premium.
The major gas companies all ahve a set of rules so their gas is of sufficient quality. The small independent gas stations may or may not have a decent additive package.

No, not all gas is the same. Will you ever notice the difference in the real world? Most likely another no.

contains up to %10 ethanol is one concerning factor though.

know why the grocery store/Sam's club/Costco etc gas is so much cheaper? its dry gas, meaning it has no additives.

I always buy BP when possible. Most 87 is pretty dirty stuff anyways, so something like Chevron Techron in small doses every fillup could counteract that.

I had great success with a previous vehicle doing a mix of 50/50 (no more than that) e85 and 87 octane.

Supposed to clean out the fuel system, etc due to less carbon in the fuel. I did notice that my engine idled more smoothly after a month of running e30 to the 50/50 mix. Obviously if you run a flex fuel vehicle just switch to e85 and eat a loss in MPG.

I usually try to run at least e30 or a self-mixed equivalent.

I wonder if the focus will be able to handle this 50/50 as well?
Has anyone done this?
I figure if tons of old 90's geo metro's and my beater nissan sentra could handle the 50/50...

In areas where the mandate 10% ethanol is REQUIRED, they would have to be 10% ethanol, or face gigantic fines from the EPA...
Anyplace else no one* uses 10% ethanol unless they live in corn country, and just love growing corn...
*well some folks who might think it is 'green' might...

Definitely not the same. Shell and bp tend to give me the best results.

I find that Chipotle gas is much stronger and has a greater hangtime as compared to Taco Bell or Del Taco. Qdoba is an acceptable substitute if I am away from my normal area.
