77 cobra ii .. ?

Found one for sale on one of my work routes, so i had to take a look at it.

First of all its a 1977 Mustang Cobra II, its has a 302 with a 5 speed. (all that was listed). Its red in color with minor scratches and paint pealing. No rust on the body, from what i can see. I didnt get a chance to look under the hood or see what the under side looks like. The seats need to be restored cause it looks like a bear went crazy on them. He is asking for $3800.

Anyone have some input on this car before i call the guy and look at it more?

The only input I have is that a few months ago my brother-in-law bought a 1996 Mustang GT 4.6L 5speed with 105k bone stock with a near flawless exterior and interior for $3900. I have absolutely no idea how the 77 Cobra compares in value/performance, but good luck to ya!

those 5.0L's were terribly underpowered. but i've never owned, driven or rode in one so i cant say. me personally i would drop a much more powerful powerplant in there. unless that particular generation of Mustang is your cup of tea, i'd shoot for an 80s or 90s 5.0L ....

yea i think its rated at 139hp and 250 ish tq. But ive heard that if you get different headers and a full exhaust you free up alot more power, since the stock set-up is really restrictive. Im considering this one over the 97 cobra just cause when i saw it, it caught my attention more.

whoa! ...that'd go straight to the paint shop for me. lol. fog lights would be useless since thats not the factory bumper and i'd lose the side skirts. pick up some wheels from LMR... ohh yeah. but 28k miles?? for that price id jump on it.

The Mustang-II sucked then, it isn't any better now.
At least their brakes and steering racks went on to better things as parts for hot rods.

You could put any windsor based small block in there, but nobody bothers to restore them because they are so ugly and never were much of a performance car. I can't think of any car made in 1977 worth restoring, it was a crap decade for cars. The drugs must have been good those years, I have no better theory to explain why the cars were so terrible.

And the 97 needs a new throw out bearing, and an exhaust manifold leak fixed.
