Question Problem with my Focus

Since purchasing my second hand 1.8 Zetec Focus from a Ford dealer in January, I have been experiencing problems with the car.

After running the car for 10mins or so the speedo drops to zero and it appears very sluggish. As well as this the mileage counter will also freeze. If i have to go down gears, or stop altogether the car stalls - very annoying! It will stay like this for a while before going back to normal. In some instances, after the speedo drops for a period the figures on the mileage counter will disappear to be replaced by dash's and the traction control (if that's what it's called) light will appear on the dashboard. This light will remain on the dashboard until you restart the engine.

I have mentionned this problem with the Ford dealers who have apparently run some tests but can't find anything wrong with it. What i think i'm going to have to do is actually take someone from the Ford dealership out in it so they can see it first hand. Knowing my luck it won't do it then!

It is now doing it 9 times out of 10 and is really starting to annoy me.

Has anyone else experienced this? I thought I watched something like this on Watchdog earlier on in the year?

Any info would be gratefully received.

If it is still under warrentee, make them fix it! If not, I would change the speed sensor. That will cause that problem.

Yes it is still under warranty, as i've already mentionned before, i have told the dealers about it but they say they can't find what the problem is. I'll phone them again in the week and mention what i've heard and that it could be the speed sensor that is at fault. Thanks for your help.

If the Focus is still under warranty I would take it back to the dealer. I have the same problem. I just bought a new Focus 05 ZX4 and it has already left me on the road after just two days. The engine stalled under a slight aceleration, then it reved up to 4000RPM, stalled again, reved up a second time tp 4000 RPm. We coasted to a stop restarted the engine. We drove to the dealership. The Traction control on the instrument panel stayed on the whole of the trip to the dealership. It seems like a electronic control problem. so I think Ford will have to fix the thing. I have had Ford for 45 years and this is destroying my faith in domestic cars. I can see why people are buying imports. I hope it gets better for you and me both.

If your dealer is anything like my dealer they will just tell you there is nothing wrong and that will be that. Ford will tell you to take it to the dealer. My Focus is a bucket of bolts but the dealer says everything is OK. My next car will not be a Ford!
