looking to buy

I currently drive a 94 Ford Lightning and am looking for something better on gas to drive back and forth to work. I found a black 07 Focus SES 2 door hatchback with 106,000 miles and a 5 speed manual transmission. He is asking $5000 OBO. also he says "after market flip up CD/DVD player and upgraded sound system. Also has custom black rims and deep tint."

Are there any common problems or issues with these cars that I need to look at? Is there anything that needs to be done to them at 100,000 miles?

Thanks

lotttta miles for an 07' in my opinion. the fact that he hasn't tampered with any "performance" parts can be good. shoulda had of course dozens of oil changes by now, check plugs, wires, air + fuel filter. ask him if he has an idea of MPG. how's the chassis look? and major scraping or rust? you def cam to the right site for some input. A duratec guru will see this and post something. =D

I figured 106k was quite a bit for an 07 but i figured these cars would last quite a while and 100k wasn't bad for the car just bad for it being an 07. Looked it up on KBB and it came up as $5500 and he's asking $5k I was going to offer $4700. So are these cars still reliable with over 100k miles?

I missed an 05 with 80k miles on it last week..

I might pass on this one and wait to find another with lower miles. But still any info and advise it welcome.

Thanks

I had a 160k on my 07 when I wrecked it. Never had any major mech problems. I owned the car since 30k, replaced alternator once and changed oil, that's it! 106k miles would not scare me and at least in my neck of the woods $5,000 would not be a bad price if the car is clean.

ya if the car is clean and in good condition it's not a bad price. the 100k thing is just a personal thing with me. and ya loco thats some useful info to know about the filter. heh' the aftermarket intake would be the best route to go. too bad you werent inquiring last week. my old friends mother sold her 2001 focus zts with 84k miles for only 2500. yeah i dont live real close, but still cheaper ha. good luck. florida's full of cars! haha

I have just under 107k on my 2006. When I bought it I had the dealer replace the driver's side seat-belt since it was slow to retract (happens to a lot of seat belt with use), the replacement seat belt was defective and failed (air bag module cause it to permanently lock somehow as if it were in an accident) within 1 month, replaced under warranty.

Otherwise, no issues.

Good thing about the duratecs is they have a timing chain instead of a timing belt, so you shouldnt have to worry about that.

As long as the care was taken care of with regular maintenance (id change all fluids/filters on any used car I would buy.) I have not had any issues with my '07 and haven't read about anything major on them here either.
