Light Shutdown

Light Shutdown
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recently purchased a brand new 2012 Focus. The other night my daughter left the lights on. The switch was in the manual mode NOT the Auto-on. Nearly five hours later the lights never shut off automatically. Now please don't tell me how they shut off automatically if the switch is in the Auto-on position all the way to the right. I know that and in that position all the lights inside and out shut off in about 30 seconds after turning the ignition off.

I called 7 different dealers and Ford Headquarters in Michigan and not one person has the answer to a very simple question.

The question is this. With the light switch in the manual position meaning one turned the lights on themselves do the lights eventually shut off if you forget to turn the switch off? The minute you shut the car off the headlights go out but the parking lights and interior lights stay on. As I said luckily 5 hours later I noticed they were still on.

No one seems to know if they should have shut down on their own. For example in my 2009 Hyundai if you leave them on by accident, they shut off as soon as you pull the key out or open the door.

It makes no sense not to have a cutoff but it seems that the parking lights and interior lights stay on until the battery dies which seems inane on Ford's part.

Does anyone know if they should have eventually shut off. 2 dealers said they should but had no idea why mine did not. 3 had no idea. One said it was a software issue and Ford headquarters was totally useless and clueless.

All I need is someone with a 2012 to go out, start the car, put the lights on(not in AUTO-ON) and then shut the car off and tell me what happens. My dealer said he would try it and get back to me but never did.

I am guessing that your headlights will go out but your parking lights will not...at least not until your battery dies.

If this is the case, it's a lousy design on Ford's part.

HELP!!!!
