Diesel Particulate Filter

Hello,

I have a 55 Ford Focus TDCI that currently has problems with the DPF. Ive had it checked by local garages and Ford. A regeneration has been done in the last month but the engine management light comes on after about 1/2 mile from cold and falls into limp mode. Spoke to Ford and they said the DPF replacement would be the next step.

Ford want to charge 1000 plus, is there anything to watch out by getting this done by an exhaust / tyre company, I've had a couple of quotes of 450 and 250 for the replacement.

Any help would be great...

Wouldn't that fall under an emissions warranty?

It would here in the U.S. but he is in the U.K. They may have different warranty coverage for Ford products there(if any applies).

What year is the Focus?

Do you happen to know what codes are being set to illuminate the warning?

I haven't had the opportunity to work with a Focus diesel yet, but with the powerstroke diesels we have here, it is possible to use the ford scantool to monitor the level of restriction accross the DPF as well as the exhaust temperatures at various points along the exhaust to get a clear indicator of whats happening in the exhaust. Do you have any more information as to what tests have been done, or what readings have been monitored using the scan tool to come to this conclusion?

p042F - EGR Control Stuck Closed

p0490 EGR valve position control performance or range fault

p2458 Diesel particulate filter regeneration duration

p2585 Fuel additive control module warning lamp request

p0341 Cam shaft position sensor A circuit range performance (bank 1 or single sensor)

p0336 CKP sensor crank position A circuit range / performance

p0299 Turbo / charger super charger under boast

p1932 Fuel additive level low

When I took it too Ford a couple of months a go the above codes appeared.

Since then I have visited two local independent garages that both ran there own tests and said it was the DPF at fault. A regeneration has been carried out by Ford as well.
