do WANT!!!

http://www.speednation.tv/?article=m...s-spec&lang=en

I came across a video of the car on YouTube and followed the link to the article thinking this has got to be BS, no way it's making that kind of power at 1bar. Then I see the name of the builder/tuner and I knew I was going to eat my words.

Then, I see the static compression the thing is making, 13:1. But keep in mind that static compression doesn't mean a whole lot in cases where you have lots of overlap, which drops dynamic compression. Dynamic compression determines the final compression ratio and is where 'knock' stems from. Even still 13:1, boost and some serious RPM is a recipe for an exciting disaster. The fact it's holding together and a DD (I'm sure used loosely) is a big achievement for Mr. Panopoulos (but expected IMO).

Now I'm an EVO fan (not fanatic) but I'm more of a fan of good engineering and efficiency, which is why I'm talking too much. I look at the performance of this car and really have to wonder why the Focus doesn't come close, not even a little. My feeling is that our fear of RPM is a factor as well as our poor flowing heads (even in ported form). If people weren't afraid of more RPM, more compression and invested time in making our heads better we wouldn't need to push 30+psi to make somewhat impressive HP #'s.

Depending on the cylinder head and intake airflow specs that might be correct. A very good flowing head takes a lot more airflow to make the same boost numbers.

Purely kuh-razy. Gott dayum kuhrazy, even. I hear what you're saying about engineering, too (in my own admittedly limited way). I think that Ford is finally making some good advancements with well-established technologies like VCT, DI, turbos, etc. I don't know if comparing the Focus to anything the likes of an EVO is fair though...

Ford has done little to flex its engine tech with these cars until extremely recently. But I hear what you're saying.

If they wanted good flow, they would've skipped VCT tech, and gone straight to solenoid valves like BMW and Fiat. Better than that, work with Coates to produce spherical rotating valves for the masses. Those are going to be present in Chinese vehicles soon, and maybe even Chinese vehicles sold in the USA. What did domestic manufacturers do? Thumb down, nose up. He's not the only inventor either. There's a whole list of inventors who've tried to help out our domestic manufacturers, and it never works. They want us to be last in automotive tech, and first in fuel consumption. I already know they can do it. I had a friend who accidentally drove off the lot in an Expedition that was supposed to go to the DEA- had a special VIN number and everything. How'd you like to spin tires at 60 mph and get nearly 30 mpg in an Expedition? Not unless you're in the FBI or DEA would you get a Ford like that. When I buy American made products, I support the workers, not the people running the business into the ground.
