Considering 08/09 Focus - Reliable?

Hey guys, I'm looking to upgrade shortly to my first newer, non beater car. I've found a few 08/09 focus' with around 50k miles in my area for about 8-9k. Question is, I would need this car to last another 4-5 years until i finish college, so are these cars reliable into the 100k-120k mile range if maintained well?

I would probably look more at the manual transmission models, if that makes any difference.

Thanks guys!

i know someone on here has made it over 100,000 miles. i think his clutch was slipping but i think he bought it used too. also, there's an svt with 200,000 miles and still running. Honestly you won;t go wrong with a focus. i have a 2011 with a manual. so much better than the auto plus better mpg's (so i've seen)

Well, I'd steer clear of early 1st gens, but the rest of them are great cars. There is a reason you see them all over the place...

yep my focus was reliable and great till the transmission started slipping around 104k I decided to just trade it in because I didn't want to have to deal with any more things going wrong after that. Plus I needed to do some extra maintenance and stuff for the 100k thing and yeah I've wanted a new car for a while and I've been saving up for years :)

The reliability of my 2010 has been excellent. All I've had to do is gas, oil changes and tire rotations(23K miles so far and counting).

Thanks guys, they sound like pretty reliable little cars. What does everyone think about an '05-'07 model? probably ZX3 or ZX5. Are these about the same as far as reliability? Any MPG gains in the newer ones?

From what I can see my choices (in my price range) are this:

08-09 Focus with 40k-70k miles, probably a more basic S or SE model.
05-07 Focus ZX3 or ZX5 with under 40K, with all the options I could ever want.

I do like the styling better on the newer ones, but heated seats, lower miles, and all kinds of other options sounds pretty nice. How are the automatics in either of those cars, and are the newer ones likely to be any more reliable than the old ones? Keep in mind, I would need to keep this car for 4+ years, probably 60k or better miles.

Thanks again for the help guys!

By the way, anybody have any opinions on an older (06-07) 4 cylinder fusion?
