Friend got a tint ticket...help?

Ok so my friend got a fix it ticket for illegal tints. She said the cops were doing random stops and checks. She has 20% all around and the cop used a meter. No fine price is on the ticket so I assume it was a fix it ticket. What can she do short of removing all the tints. Shes probably just going to do that, but what a waste ya know. In NY its 70% and anything on the rear window. I told her cops wont bother you if they can see you driving. So what is her options here? Anyone get these dismissed without removing the tint?

Options to removing the tint? sell the car.
20% from 75% legal max is pretty outrageous IMO.
So sell the car, or move to another state.

I don't think there is a way out without removal. I have 5% on my car I bought it out of state with the tints done. I am pretty much waiting to get a ticket before I take them off. I don't want to because it looks awesome but the ticket is inevitable in NY.

Buy her a pair of sunglasses. I still don't understand this tint obsession. Nobody beyond the age of 16 thinks it looks cool.

Find a cop friend to sign off on the ticket...that's what people here in NE do.

Also, just food for thought, but NE cops do not keep a record of the fix it tickets, IDK if it's the same in NY, but here people collect them as souvenirs.

Disagree

I got a "fix it" ticket in ct but i was legal. Tested 34.9% legal up to 35%
had to go to an inspection station.

Not sure about Ny but the cop said you would be unable to register the car again if the car was not inspected within 30 days. I'm sure every state is different so I would say anyone from NY would be most helpful here.

Nobody asked if You thought tint was cool or not. In fact, nobody asked for any form of social commentary. Keep it on topic, or just don't post. Thanks.

@OP, I have no idea what Your local laws regarding tint are, but here in TX, a fix it ticket is always coupled with a visit to the Judge to prove the fix was performed, or it will show up if You're stopped again, and You will be fined if it hasn't been fixed.

Yea thats what I told her, I said go to the shop you had it done and see if theyd write you a reciept as if you had it down then take it to court, but not in your own car. Or if they wont have it removed and see if theyd make a deal to remove it and then shed come and get new tints.

Moose, that is simply not true, if that was the case then no one else would have tints, especially here in Ny bc you cant drive at 16. Not to mention most members on this forum are far from 16. People dont get tints just to look cool, its also to block out some sun and give alittle privacy. But you also disagree with modding, so stop being and old fart lol.

Jmiller, tint laws in Ny are 70% legal for front and back sides, anything on rear. Lol i know, why not just say any tint on the fromt windows is illegal.

Well the good news on that front is, there are some very high quality ceramic tints available(SunTek, Llumar, 3M) that offer almost 100% UV protection with tints as pointlessly light as 80%(what I'll be doing My windshield with when I finally get popped for My current 35% all around). It's not cheap, but it serves the main purpose of tint without the BS legal ramifications of it(TX allows 80% on the windshield, 25% fronts and no restrictions on the rears).

In NYS window tint must allow 70% of the tint through. Her 20% coupled with windows not being 0% (because they never are 0% from the factory) could easily throw her over the 30% mark. She should just peel it off. Also the cost of the fine is never on the ticket in NYS. That's up to the judge during the court appearance.
