Got my girlfriend a focus

ok so i got my gf a focus

buuutttt were both on the loan im the main holder for it. i have to get insurance for the car but i dont really want to spend the extra 100 a month... so with that being said can i get insurance and then cancel it because i never drive it. keep in mind this is done through finance so the bank requires i have insurance. we are also doing most of this through the dealership as they are what you call a cuddle dealership which means they are partners with the bank and they can deal with the bank directly without me getting involved.

so what will happen if they find out i dont have insurance for it.

well in Nevada, the DMV will suspend your registration the second you don't have insurance on the car, they have a direct connection with your insurance company. And then there's the wording in your contract with the dealership, if it has in your contract that you must have a certain minimum insurance requirement then they could (not likely) hold you in breach of contract and repo your car! Again not likely but possible. you should never take the chance, insure your ride!

^This.

I'd be surprised if YOU specifically had to have insurance on it, they just want the CAR to be fully insured in case something happens.

Wow...so you have a loan on a vehicle that your girlfriend drives, and can't afford insurance for it...that was a smart move. This situation will end badly for you, I can tell you that.

If the bank finds out you don't have insurance on the vehicle they will likely cancel your contract and repossess the car. And if they don't find out and she smashes up the car, you're out all the money for the loan, and won't have anything to show for it.

There's two things I'm going to say here:

1) She's your girlfriend, not wife. For your sake I hope you've been together for like 10 years and you just haven't gotten married because you think it's stupid or something. Relationships end, even long term ones. And having your name on a loan for a car she drives is just bad juju.

2) If you couldn't afford the insurance on the vehicle, you shouldn't have bought it. That's just simple common sense. It screws you over if you get in a bad accident, and it screws everyone else over when you hit someone else. Plus, who pays if you (or she...rather) injures someone and it costs $50,000 in medical bills? Who the hell is paying for that? Do realize that if she hits someone and causes serious injury or death and she's at fault, that will come back to YOU as your name is on the loan for the car. It's not just the driver's fault all the time.

You have some serious thinking to do. Having been hit by someone who didn't not have automotive insurance, please don't be 'that guy'.

Well, this is entire more negative than needed.

If you had read the posts, you would see that he is proposing to her, which kind of makes that a serious relationship.

As far as the insurance goes, if they are struggling to afford it, but need a car, how are they different from so many people right now?

I'm sure that if he asks, and she says yes, then the insurance on the car will go down.

Now, my two cents on the issue is that in the state of Virginia if you have a car without insurance, they suspend your license. That would be something to watch out for. Would it be possible to have it go on your insurance and have her pay you the difference?
