Being messed around by dealer

I have registered on this forum as I really have no clue where else to get information. Any help appreciated!

I ordered a 5dr Focus SE Manual + Sport Pack + 201A in Grey, early in June, and was told to expect a 4-6 week lead time.

I was given the VIN by the dealer 3 weeks ago, and told it was in transit, and should hopefully be delivered within 2 days. I won't post the VIN on here as I appreciate that 10 posts are requried for tracking in that regard. However I do know the vehicle is built and in transit.

However 2 days kept passing, and each time I'd be told a couple of days more. Then I was told it might have been in a batch of 500 cars that had potential hail storm damage.

Now they're just not returning my calls which I find unprofessional in the extreme.

I'm from the UK and this is my first experience of car buying in the US - I was expecting better customer service, and at least the courtesy of being provided reliable information by my dealer.

Personal circumstances mean I need to purchase a vehicle this week - a company rental vehicle needs returning.
So how would people rate my chances of being able to cancel this order, get my $1k deposit back and walk away?

Thanks in advance.

I know one of our guys here was waiting on a Focus and a train full of 20 Focus' were sent to NY state instead of Colorado and the ones destined for NY were sent here. Maybe yours is suffering the same fate?

I know that you ordered it from one dealer. Are there any other dealers around where you live? If so, I would go to another one and see if you can get a better answer. If that doesnt work, call the Ford customer service line.

I hope you get the answer that you wanted.

Your dealer sounds about as honest and forthright as mine. My dealer blew me off for several weeks, then called me out of nowhere to tell me a pack of lies about my car being built and in transit when I knew the build date was still more than a week in the future. Haven't heard from them again in the three weeks since this incident, and I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that they don't do anything else to screw this deal up. Oh, and I was quoted 8-10 weeks on order day, and you can figure out for yourself from my signature how far beyond that I've gone.

They can't keep your deposit if the car has not been delivered to you and accepted. In fact once the car arrives you can still take your deposit and walk away. Get your money and find a dealer with focus in stock (if they exist) or test drive a few cars this week. I suggest Hyundai love my new Elantra so far, Mazda or Subaru if you prefer something a little more sporty.
