Question Question About Being Used

Anyone know if you let your car sit for a while, especially like during the winter without running it, is that bad for the motor? Im talking about 2weeks-1month without being used?

Well from what i have been told (don't make fun if I don't word this right) if you leave it sit for a while then carbon will build up in your engine. That's just what I've been told.

yeah it's not really bad. But it does let carbon build up faster. But you won't have any problems until the car starts to get in the 100K range. Just get some injector cleaner or somthing to help fight it, if you are worried about it.

If it's going to sit for more than a month you need to drain all the oil out, or go start it once a week and let it go through it's warmup cycle.

Your battery may be a problem.

the battery drain is the only issue of letting your car sit for long periods without running. Please explain to me how carbon can build up on a non-running engine? The engine is sealed well, and not likely to get moisture in the engine to cause rust. Good example? My murdercycle sits for 5-6 months straight. I tore it down this year, and it is perfect inside (except for the tranny gears... the reason I tore it down). If it is going to sit for a long period, it is best to leave it sit and keep the battery charged with a charger periodicly. To run it to operating temp is only if your out driving it for at least 10 miles or better even, 30 miles to make sure any moisture in it has evaporated from the heat. Less than that, and your making moisture stay in the engine and you will have problems eventually. You don't want to take the oil out. That is what is protecting it!! If it sits for more than 6 months, then you want to change the oil before driving it. Oil breaks down in time. That is why they recommend changing oil in 5,000 miles or 6 months. whichever comes first

I don't know why I said that.... I meant gas.... old gas can do some nasty things once you start it after a while.

You should change the oil before you store it though

Here is what I've been told.

1) Full tank of gas
2) Fresh oil
3) Disconnect battery
4) Inflate tires to slightly higher psi to prevent warping
5) Cover up car
